This tug was built in 1943 by Jakobson Shipyard of Oyster Bay, NY as the Major Elisha K. Henson (LT-5) for the U.S. Army. The tug was transferred to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1946 and renamed John F. Nash. Typically just known as the Nash, the tug was retired in 1989 and acquired by the Port of Oswego. The Nash was restored to its U.S. Navy appearance and renamed LT-5 and became a floating museum operated by the H. Lee White Maritime Museum in Oswego, New York. A working museum, the LT-5 is still serviceable and operates on occasion in Oswego harbor and is open to the public.
