This small tug was built in 1928 by American Boiler Works in Erie, PA for the New York State Barge Canal. After spending its entire career in service on the canals, the Tender 8 was retired around the 2000s, and remained inactive until 2018 when it was intentionally sunk as part of an artificial reef in Long Island Sound off Smithtown, New York.
