The Rhode Island was built in 1930 by and for the Great Lakes Towing Company of Cleveland, OH. In 1958 she was repowered with a diesel engine. She is based in Ashtabula, OH, alongside her fleetmate New YorkRhode Island works in the ship assist trade in Ashtabula and other Lake Erie ports as needed.
