This integrated tug was built in 1973 by Halter Marine of New Orleans, LA for Litton Great Lakes Corp. She was paired with a 975 foot long self-unloading barge of the same name for use in the dry bulk trades on the Great Lakes. The Presque Isle was eventually acquired by Greatg Lakes Fleet Inc. of Duluth, MN, where the tug and barge retained their name.

Still unique as the only integrated tug on the Great Lakes, the Presque Isle is active in the ore, stone, and coal trades around the Lakes.
