This tug was built in 1969 by Port Weller Drydocks of St. Catharines, ON as Atlantic for Atlantic & Pacific Barge Transport Limited. She was built to push the hopper barge Betsiamites. In 1976 the tug was renamed Laval, and in 1979 she was acquired by Reed Maritime Inc. Daishowa Maritime then acquired the tug and barge in 1988. The Laval was sold to Ocean Group of Quebec, QC, and was renamed Ocean Echo II in 1996. She was also then fitted with an articulated coupling system for the Betsiamites.
