The tug Alpha was built by Service Marine Group in Amelia, LA in 1981 for Action Marine. She later was renamed Specialist and saw service in the New York area. She was later renamed The Rock. In 2012, The Rock was acquired by Andrie Inc., and she began her Great Lakes career under the new name Meredith Ashton. In 2016, she was sold to Great Lakes Dock & Materials of Muskegon, MI.

Meredith Ashton works primarily in dredging and marine construction for GLD&M.
