Built in 1961, this tug was originally named Gladys Bea for Nol-Riot Rentals of Golden Meadow, LA. She came to the Great Lakes in 1973 after being purchased by Tidewater Dredge and Construction, who named the tug American Viking that year. In 1975 she was acquired by Bultema Dock and Dredge, retaining her name. In 1981 she was sold to Canonie Transportation. Canonie changed the name to Mari Beth Andrie in 1983. Andrie Inc. acquired the tug in 1987. In 2005 she was sold to the King Company of Holland, Michigan, where she was renamed Matt Allen.
Matt Allen remains active for King, working in the dredge and construction trades on Lake Michigan.
