Idaho was built by and for the Great Lakes Towing Company in Cleveland, OH, in 1931, and was the final tug of their building program that began in 1907 and produced all of the City and State-class “G tugs”. The Idaho was repowered from steam to diesel-electric in 1957. She is currently based in Detroit, MI, where she serves as the reserve tug.
