This large tug was built in 1974 by Marinette Marine of Marinette, WI as the USS Shabonee (YTB-833) for the U.S. Navy. In 2002, she was decommissioned by the Navy and sold civilian to McAllister Towing & Transportation of New York, NY, who renamed the tug Daniel McAllister. In 2015, the Great Lakes Towing Company of Cleveland, OH purchased the tug, renaming her Huron.

The Huron is based in Duluth, MN, where she provides icebreaking and ship docking services.
