This classic tug was built in 1944 by Russel Brothers Limited as the HMCS Glenside (YTB-500) for the Royal Canadian Navy. In 1947, she was decommissioned and transferred to the Naval Auxiliary Fleet, where she was renamed Glenside and based in Halifax, NS. McKeil Marine Limited of Hamilton, ON acquired the tug in 1979, where she retained her name. McKeil eventually replaced the Glenside‘s pilothouse.
