This unique tug was built in 1967 by Jakobson Shipyard as USS Menasha (YTB-773/YTM-761) for the U.S. Navy. In the late 1980s, she was sold to the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation. In 1991, the Menasha was purchased by John Fedek of Ogdensburg, NY. The following year, she was acquired by Gordon’s Welding of Sarnia, ON. MTL Marine Tug Inc., a division of Three Rivers Boatmen, purchased the Menasha in 1995, and changed her name to Escorte. She was later sold to Ocean Group of Quebec, QC.
The Escorte is a tractor tug, fitted with Voith-Schneider cycloidal drives, and is currently based in Sarnia, Ontario to perform ship assist work.
