This vessel was built in 1922 by Defoe Shipbuilding as the package freighter American Girl for Harry Searfoss. In 1931 she was sold to George F. Mielke, and then William Walker Inc. in 1936. John O. Anderson bought the American Girl in 1947, and she was passed to Cecil E. Anderson in 1955. Gillespie Oil & Transit of Beaver Island, MI acquired the vessel in 1971. In 2002, St. James Marine purchased the American Girl.
Americal Girl is in busy service, towing barges with various cargo to and from Beaver Island as she has done for decades.
